LIFE LATELY AND MY WEEKEND SCORE

Hey friends!  I took a little un-intended break for a while, so I'm so glad you're here today.  We took a few days off for Fall Break last weekend, and this past week I just needed a bit of space away from the online world.  But, I'm back in gear and ready to share some good things with you this week (come back tomorrow for this month's My Five Favorites!).

The kids were out of school for a few days a week and a half ago, so we took a quick road trip to the Ozarks and spent some time at Silver Dollar City and around Branson.  It's SUCH a good trip to do in the Fall, everything is beautiful and the weather is so nice.

The park is nestled among bountiful gorgeous trees and is all decked out for Fall.  These life size horses made out of straw (or corn husks?  I'm not sure) were a work of art!

What a difference a few years makes!  The photo on the left was from 4 or 5 years ago.

Caleb and I took the time to tour Marvel Cave, which SDC was built around.  The others weren't thrilled about being cramped down in a hole in the ground so they skipped it, but we enjoyed the tour and thought it was well worth the time away from the park.

For the first time, we turned the kids loose to do their own thing in the park a few times and it was really nice to just leisurely roam!

If you're in the Branson area, stopping to eat a Lambert's is a must.  The rest of the family had been at various times, but it was actually my first.  You must stay alert, though... when you want a hot roll they toss it across the room to you!!  And, this is the first place when they didn't have to re-fill my husband's cup 542 times, they serve your drink in a huge mug.  He's a heavy (water) drinker!

My son plays percussion in band (see a short clip of him in action here), so we were also busy this past week wrapping up marching season with our last home game and a state marching contest in the Tulsa area (Broken Arrow).

I'm amazed at how hard band kids work during marching season, and am so proud of him and the entire group.  These are GREAT kids and I'm so glad that he's flourishing in something he loves so much.

While we were in Broken Arrow we had some free time so I visited a few local antique/vintage malls (more on those stops coming soon).  I picked up a few random odds and ends, and then I came across these handsome vintage fellows!  I simply could not leave without them.

It was almost dark before I remembered to take a photo, but you get the idea.

After looking for similar ones online, they appear to be missing their tusks, but that's ok with me.  They've apparently had a hard life, but I'm going to try to remedy the sagging tray tops.  The paint is chipping off badly, so I think a new paint job will also be in store.  At least one of them will go out on the patio and I really can't decide yet on a color, but how cute is this guy in hot pink?  Any suggestions?

Thanks for hanging in there with me, we'll be back to normal this week!

FALL PORCH DECORATIONS

I've shared my Fall decorations around the house and on the patio with you all, but I'm just now getting around to decking the front porch out for the season.

D&T INSTAPEEK #2

Hey you all!  As much as I love posting and following friends on Instagram, I realize that many of you don't use it.  Or, even if you're on IG, you might miss posts when IG is deciding what will show up in your feed (boo-I know I miss lots of posts this way too!).  So, I thought I'd give you a peek of what goes up over on my Instagram feed here on the blog occasionally.  Today, here's the highlight reel of our past few months...

One evening while in the area we stopped by the new Wheeler District in OKC.  It houses a ferris wheel and picnic and game areas, providing a fun spot for friends and family to hang out.  We just checked everything out and are looking forward to returning soon to spend a little more time there.

After last year's holiday season, rather than trashing a poinsettia that was past it's prime I stuck it in the window in my bathroom, then moved it to a shady spot on the patio when the weather warmed up. Other than occasionally watering it, I've totally ignored it.  I was shocked at how well it's rebounded!  Commenters on my IG post said that putting it in a dark closet for a few days will bring back the red leaves.

My son is playing the quads in band this year, and we've been in the thick of marching season.  Any band families know what a work-out and major commitment it is, but he truly loves it!

Just a little preview for my Fall Home Tour, this spot got re-arranged for the actual tour photos. My sister spotted that cute little pair or brass deer for me at an estate sale, they're a perfect match to my big ones.

New hairdo... first time ever to have it colored!  It's been a month and I'm still surprised every time I look in the mirror.

Another project sneak peek that I posted, this time for my Fall Harvest tablescape.  Everyone went nuts over those cute squirrels. (Ha, get it?)

And, this is what happens when you leave food out overnight around our house...  some critter did some major late night snacking!  The crazy thing is that I had that table set up for days while I worked on it and prepared to photograph it, and every night I knew I needed to bring the peanuts in.  I did, and moved all the chairs away from the table so nothing could get up there.  The ONE night I forgot, they took advantage.  Thankfully I had just finished the shoot! That platter was full of all the s'mores ingredients that were shown in my patio tour, there were about 2 shreds of a Hershey's wrapper left and that was it!

We were able to attend Live with Kelly while we were in NYC.  We had one little subway mishap on our way there, so we arrived later than we wanted to and ended up in the back of the line, getting us a seat in the very top corner of the balcony, but we had a blast!  We got to see Samuel L. Jackson, Mandy Moore, and Oklahoman Kristin Chenoweth that day.  It's always fun to see places you always see on tv in real life, they're always different than the perception.  (Side note: Have you seen the new series "This is Us" on NBC that Mandy Moore is starring in?  I'm liking it so far, such an interesting story line.)

A pretty fall table in the Crate & Barrel store in Soho.  All of the Stylemaker attendees received a gift card to the store, and it's a little hard to see here, but I chose one of the awesome gold candleholders in the centerpiece.  It just arrived last week and I love it, you'll get a better look at it here soon.

Just documenting a mid-week date night!  It was for a work dinner so we were with hundreds of people the whole evening, but a fun chance to get out none the less.

Last weekend I attended a retreat for Minister's Wives that the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma puts together.  The theme this year was mentoring and Esther Burroughs was our keynote speaker.  If you're familiar with her, you know what a treat that was!  We had several guest speakers as well, one being the ladies of The Wild Mother, a local floral arranging business.  They shared lots of floral tips (especially for working with grocery store flowers) and created this beautiful arrangement as they talked.  I took lots of notes to share with you and am planning to try my hand at my own arrangement in the next few weeks, I'll let you know what I come up with.

Here's my most liked photo on IG in the past few months.  I posted it quickly at a random time while we were heading to stand in the crowd at the Today Show in NYC, and was surprised that it got such a huge response.  I think you all like my "new" bamboo console table as much as I do!

I hope you enjoyed these little snaps of life that don't make it to the blog.  If you're NOT on Instagram yet, I certainly would love to see you there sometime!

SWEET SATURDAY #6

8 pumpkin decorating ideas, and there's not a carved one in the bunch!

this one from A Subtle Revelry

Check out how my darling friend Lindsay turned her shed into a charming screened porch.  I don't think you could pry me out of there on these gorgeous Fall days!

Tis the season... my family always gobbles up this pumpkin bread, it's great to have on hand for breakfast and after school snacks.

A home tour full of eye candy that's not short on color...

I still occasionally get asked about what I used to make the little chalk holder for our chalk wall that we had once upon a time.  It's this one, I sprayed it gold along with some small screws and just screwed it into the wall.  If you want to use it on a regular chalk board, just use a few drops of hot glue and it should hold like a charm!

You all know I love to set a table, here's 15 ideas for a pretty Fall table (with a good variety of ideas).

9 fairly quick and easy things you can do to update and fluff your space this weekend...

Have a great weekend, friends.  What are you up to?  I'm finally getting around to decorating my front porch for Fall, I'll share on the blog this week!

10 STYLISH LAMPS FROM WALMART (UNDER $60 EACH!)

About a year and a half ago I posted 10 great lamps from a surprising source-Walmart-and I was surprised with what a great response the post received!  So, I thought it might be time to revisit what Walmart has to offer.  Once again, I found 10 stylish options, all under $60 each!

In selecting lamps to share with you, I stuck with choosing pretty neutral colors, a good white lamp looks pretty anywhere!  *Be sure to check measurements if there's one you're interested in.  Most of these are table lamp size, but a few are smaller.  Several of these are sold in pairs, but when you divide the cost each lamp is still within the price range.

One-
I think this is my favorite one of the lot!  The glass feels traditional, but the shape and metallic ring give it a more modern feel.
Ok wait, I think these might be the steal of the century!  Only one is pictured, but the description says in several places that this is for a PAIR!!  EDITED: I knew something was fishy here!  Somewhere between last night when I sourced it and this morning when this posted, this listing totally changed.  Now it is very clearly ONE lamp for the price listed.  So, it no longer fits the under $60 each criteria, but sorry, I'm not going to the trouble of changing the graphic.  ;)    The shape is pretty and classic, and it's hard to tell, but the base is actually lucite.  Still not a bad deal for a very pretty lamp.
Another pair, and if you're decor is more French, Rustic, or Farmhouse, these would fit right in.
A pretty, classic gourd shape.  Honestly,  I can't tell from the photo if the shade color is quite right with the base color, but for a basic neutral lamp the reviews are good.  I think it would be worth risking returning it to the store if the colors seem off.  This style comes in a pretty bluish green color too.
I can't resist a cute animal accent lamp!  This would be darling in a boy's room or quirky touch in an office or study if you love the ocean.
Six-
A smaller accent lamp, would be nice tucked in a bookshelf or on a kitchen counter.
OK, this might just be the best find here!  It's not pictured here, but it does come with a white drum shade, and it's TWENTY dollars!!  It's one of the smaller ones I included and it's a faux marble, but I think it looks pretty convincing!
Comes in navy or pink gloss, would be cute on a bedside table in a kid's room or as a smaller accent lamp.
I keep changing my mind on my favorite!  These are $1 over the $60 each price, but I included them anyway.  I think they are impressive and I figured it was close enough!  They remind me of my thrifted brass bamboo lamps that I painted green.  These might be inspiring me to re-paint mine one of these days.
A nice little $25 offering, with genuine leather wrapped around the base.  I think these slimmer lamps are always a good option for a mantel.

A few honorable mentions that are out of our $60 price range, but still good deals I think for under $85 each.

One-
Pretty little blue and white pair, I like the shape.
Two-
Great shape, and the contrast of the black shade is a nice change.
For all of you milk glass lovers!
I like the color of these, and a good pineapple lamp is always a winner!
Another blue and white pair, the blue is rich navy on this set.

There you go!  If your house needs some fluffing before the holidays, there's some good options right at your fingertips!  And, I'd love to know in the comments if any of you have bought a lamp you love from Walmart.

IF YOU MISSED IT... {AUGUST-SEPTEMBER}

Boy, are we on the down hill slide to the end of the year, or what?  How does time keep moving faster and faster?  In case any posts rolled by in a blur, here's the highlight reel of the past couple of months.

We are having so much fun with the My Five Favorites series each month.  Recently, I shared my favorite ways to use mixed metals

and my favorite DIY artwork projects.

shopped the house and got 2 new looks for both of the dining areas in our home without making any new purchases!

Have you seen the newer designs of pillows covers at Hobby Lobby?  I sat in the aisle and took lots of pictures to share, there's some great ones for Fall!

I showed you how to recover an upholstered bench or chair seat (it's so easy!)

and used a fun stencil design to create this DIY monogrammed door mat.

At a reader's suggestion, I've started regularly posting on Saturdays.  This series is called Sweet Saturday (because aren't they???) and I share things from around the web that I think you'll enjoy, as well as occasional project flashbacks, updates and sneak peeks.  (See all Saturday posts here)

My favorite new Kate Spade fabrics

After a makeover almost 5 years ago, our laundry room desperately needed some organization

and I showed you how I tackled one of my toughest decorating problems and disguised the litter box.

We did some traveling towards the end of summer and I shared our family trip to Red River and a trip I took to the Haven Conference in Atlanta.

Speaking of being away, a few of my friends from Southern Hospitality and Casa Watkins Living filled in for me when we were gone and shared their Favorite Five projects with you.  Be sure to stop by and get to know them if you haven't!

In August we celebrated 5 years of Dimples and Tangles!  You all have been and continue to be the most encouraging and supportive readers around!

With our new patio, I was so excited to set up this Fall harvest table (and reminded that I can't forget and leave food out overnight!)

After a long dry spell, I came across this bamboo console table craigslist score.

Finally, it's actually feeling like Fall in our area.  If you're just now getting around to decorating for the seasons, I shared some simple ideas in my Fall Home Tours. Part 1 covers our living areas and kitchen,

and Part 2 covers some of those areas switched up a bit (with the bamboo table makeover) as well as our patio decked out for Fall.

As always, thanks for following along, these last three months of the year will be fun as we ramp up for the holidays!
