EMILY'S COLLEGE APARTMENT TOUR- {GIRL'S COLLEGE DORM OR APARTMENT DECORATING IDEAS}

My daughter moved off campus this year and is living in an apartment with a few other girls. (See her dorm room last year here if you missed it.)  In August I shared a few spaces with you but wanted to share a full tour including their living room which I haven't posted at all yet.  So let's begin the tour there!  The star of the show in this room is definitely the cute botanical wall art.  I still had lots of pages left in the book I used for my kitchen botanical gallery wall , so I cut a few more out.  ( My exact book fluctuates terribly in price, but you could use any botanical book or even search to print free pictures online to achieve a similar look.) I picked up the gingham canvases on major clearance from the Summer collection at Hobby Lobby.  They were only a few dollars each and I thought a grouping of them with art mounted on top would be cute and cost effective for the girls' apartment.  ( This old project that I did years ago gave me ......

BACK TO COLLEGE: BEDROOM ESSENTIALS FOR STUDENTS

BACK TO COLLEGE: BEDROOM ESSENTIALS FOR STUDENTS

This post is sponsored by Walmart. I hope you enjoyed the look at my daughter's desk and study corner in her college apartment the other day, today I'm sharing the other side of the room with you (her favorite part)... her bed!   We picked up  several college bedroom essentials in the latest styles and trends  all at low prices from Walmart.  If you've had a college student you'd probably agree with me that after one year of college living a little bedding refresh might be in order before they head  back to college for a new year.  I've had several friends who had to round up entirely new bedding when the size of the bed was different than what their student had the previous year.  Although her bed was the same size as last year so we didn't have that issue, she was excited to start a new year back to college in a new room with a new comforter and sheet set.   My girl preferred a more neutral color palette for her room (shocki......

BACK TO COLLEGE: DESK ESSENTIALS FOR STUDENTS

This post is sponsored by Walmart. Well, it's hard to believe but our Summer break has come to an end and everyone is all moved back to college around here!  My daughter's first day of classes was yesterday, we moved her back to school a little over a week ago.  For her sophomore year she is living in a different place than last year, which means a different arrangement and different needs! I'm so excited to share some of the spaces in her new apartment with you over the next week or so.  Even if you don't have a college student you might need ideas for, I hope that you pick up some inspiration you might be able to use in your own home.  Her bedroom has a corner outfitted with built in shelves and a built in desk which is pretty great, but we wanted to make the most of the space and make it functional and cute.  We found some great pieces for her college apartment at Walmart to make this little work and study corner work well for her, all at budget friendly pri......

3 KEY PIECES FOR BUILDING A ROOM DESIGN- BOY'S ROOM REFRESH PART 1

Last Fall my son moved away to college, and while we welcome him home with open arms every chance we get, his room is now unoccupied most of the time.  Since we don't have a ton of square footage in our home, we like to try to make the best use of every space. So, we decided that while his room will still be "his" and ready for him any time he's home, we also wanted to tweak it just a bit to make it more useful for the rest of the family too during the majority of the year when he's not here.  Enter a happy excuse to refresh his room!  I'm so happy to once again partner with At Home Stores to spread the word about their  Rug and Furniture Event  going on now.  While we're not completely starting over in the room, I found 3 key pieces from At Home that really got the design ball rolling for a few updates to make the space function better for our family- a rug, a key piece of furniture, and great lighting. ...

THIS HOUSE: OUR HOME FOR 10 YEARS

We can hardly believe it, but this month marks our 10th anniversary of living in this house. My parents have never moved since they married almost 50 years ago, so I always lived in the same house growing up.  After marrying, we moved around a bit, but this is the longest I've ever lived in a house other than my childhood home.  My husband's dad is a pastor, so they moved around throughout his childhood and our current home is the one he's lived in the longest in his life.  So, it's quite a milestone for many reasons! ...

FUNCTION OVER FORM: BOY'S BEDROOM REDESIGN

I can't believe it's been 2 years since we finished up my son's bedroom.  With that makeover, we moved him up from a twin mattress to a full size, and my symmetry-loving self jumped at the chance to build everything around his focal wood wall , while getting all of the pieces balanced just right. Well, turns out the new arrangement wasn't working very well for his needs.  His room is t-i-n-y, and the full size bed took up most of the space.  We re-evaluated (and realized he only slept on half of the bed anyway), and decided it would be best to move him back down to a twin size in order to gain some precious floor space back.  This wasn't a change I wanted, but I had to take a big gulp and swallow my need for a balanced design and make his room more usable for him . In addition to moving him to a twin size, we also opted for a loft bed.  He had one when he was young and loved it (I hated it-changing the sheets and making a loft bed if a royal pain!). ......
