Since we've been out of town and helping with some family needs for most of the past month, I haven't had a chance to get my porch totally finished until this past weekend. Can you believe there's not a sliver of pink or bright colors? This year I was wanting a classic, traditional look- I didn't even put a bow on a pumpkin!
However, since this has been the year of the giant porch bows (Christmas Porch, Valentine's Day Porch, 4th of July Porch), I figured I'd continue with my Fall porch! This one that I made for my Entry last Christmas was just hanging out in the attic so I pulled it out and hung it up. There's a tutorial for how I made the bows here and more info on how I hung this one here. This one was indoors originally and is covered with wrapping paper. It's positioned so that it shouldn't really get wet unless there's a crazy blowing rain, time will tell how it holds up. I needed to remove the wrapping paper anyway so it will get one more round of use here first.
I went out along the creek behind our house and cut some long branches to fill the urns on the porch. There's a mixture of green leaves and some cedar branches that will stay green. I also stuck in some pampas grass plumes and a few hedge apples on dowel rods. The leaves aren't quite turning around here yet but I do have plenty of green ones and a little secret...
quick little bursts of this color gave me the perfect pop of red Fall leaves! All of these branches are just stuck in dirt inside the pot, so the leaves will dry up before too long, but I'm ok with that! I dropped some mums in my all weather wicker style planter urns and am looking forward to those opening up soon.
I had an ancient twiggy brown wreath that had seen better days but I still liked some of the components on it and wanted to mix in some green. I found this wreath that already had pinecones on it, so I removed the parts I wanted from the old wreath and wove them into the greenery on the new one. It will be easy to remove those and reuse it for Christmas. I didn't add a bow since the giant bow is hanging over the door, I think that one is sufficient- ha!
I added some pheasant feathers, turkey feathers that I've been collecting from our yard, some dried Protea flowers that were in Caleb & Kenzi's wedding arrangements, and some twigs.
Also just remembered that I have a coir pumpkin mat that I need to get out and layer on top of the gingham rug.
Lastly, I love having this string of white lights on the porch in the Fall. With it getting dark so early this time of year. it's nice to have the warm glow. This year I added an exterior remote plug for the porch lights so I can turn them off and on with a tap of a button from inside the house!
I have a big spider and a few things I'll add next week for our cute little neighborhood trick or treaters, but otherwise that's it for this year's Fall Porch!
