DECISIONS, DECISIONS {WORKS IN PROGRESS}

I think it's been a while since I've shared any projects in progress with you.  Things don't just magically happen around here!  ;)  Everyone is itching for Spring, and I suspect many of us are feeling the itch to switch things up a bit.  I'm on the verge of starting on a few big projects, but before that can happen I need to take care of some smaller things.  It's all like a big line of dominoes...

One big project happening soon is my Master Bedroom (even though I've been saying that for well over 2 years, it's REALLY happening soon, I promise!).  However, right now the room is like my storage closet.  I'll spare you the photo, just believe me.  One thing that's been tucked in the corner (and piled up with all of my extra everythings) is a wingback settee that I bought on Craigslist several years ago, planning to recover it and use in in the breakfast nook.

Isn't she a beaut?  I've delayed for so long because I had planned to strip it down and cut down the wings, making it into more of a modern sloped arm silhouette.  So, just knowing that it would not be a quick fix has left that project on hold.

But, I think lately I've made peace with leaving the shape as-is.  Over the weekend the boys muscled it into the breakfast room for me just to see if I even liked it at the table.  I already have the fabric so I threw it on top to try to get a good idea of what it would look like.

Especially in photos, the stripes are a bit busy, but I'm planning to use black welting to break up the pattern, and with a few pillows I think it will be fine.  The seat sits a little low, but I think I'll have a separate cushion made to raise it up.  If you squint just right at this photo you might catch my vision:

Even though the style is completely different, this photo has been in my inspiration file for a long time.

Little Green Notebook

In the past we've had an old loveseat in that spot off and on, and my kids really enjoyed having it there to sit at the table.  It's the spot everyone always wanted!  I'm excited to get moving on it.

I also made another CL purchase over the weekend.  We were tiring of our saddle seat barstools, and I saw these that had been listed a while.  The size is a little more petite than other bar chairs we've had in the past, so they are perfect.  Even though you can't tell in the photo, they're in pretty rough shape.  They're very sturdy but very scratched up.

I'm a little stumped on what to do with them.  I don't love the finish, so I thought about stripping them down and leaving a more natural look, but that would be a lot of work.  Paint will probably be my best option, but I can't decide on a color.  With the black seats, my go-to black won't work.  I'm considering a glossy white or of course possibly a bold color.  I don't love the shell detail either but think I can get over it with a new color.  I'm stumped on them for now, but I've always loved these so you know green could be in the decision mix too!

So, now you know a few things in the works around here!  I'm hoping to get the settee stripped down in the next day or two.  My upholsterer discounts the price if I do that part myself.  Not a fun job, but worth it.  And, Emily is stopping by today so I have a list of things to pick her brain about.  It's nice to have fresh eyes for your home sometimes...

I totally love the look of your settee at the kitchen table - that is going to be a much fought after spot! Jenny's settee has been a favorite of mine too - such great inspiration!

  3. The settee is amazing!!!! The barstools are fun, definitely paint them green and I would tie the seats in with the spotted fabric you used on your shades or something you've already used. SO FUN!

  4. i think i would paint the chairs white and let the black and gold seats stand out- i think it would be dramatic without being in your face, and tie into your kitchen perfectly. plus they would be versatile! and love the vision!!!!!!

I love the stripes! I think that will be perfect for it. I feel the same way Jennifer. Now that the weather might turn a corner soon, I am itching to get some more things done...after the bathroom, of course ;) xoxo

Love your projects in the works! I could totally see those bar stools in a fun color! I remember that settee, it's perfect and so are the stripes!

  7. Love that settee and the shape. The stripes are so perfect. This is goin to look amazing. Your bar stools are such a great find, can't wait to see what you do with them. I would paint the stools black and then use a really fun fabric on the seats. Another great accessorizing opportunity by just switching fabric from time to time.

Jennifer I always thought the small sofa you had there was so inviting, and I think the size and shape of this settee will be perfect! Looking forward to seeing that project unfold!!

PS I think you should strip the barstools and give them a finish like the chairs at the table, keeping the black seat cushions. I love a little wood mixed in with all that delicious color of yours!

Yes, yes and yes! I totally love the stripes! I've wanted a settee in our dining room but haven't found one that was affordable and the right size. What a lucky find!

  13. Love that settee and the stripes! I think green would be perfect for those barstools, especially with your green china cabinet!

  14. Green with gold accent as on your door. Your fav green but a few shades darker with dusky golg accent to echo your flower light fixtures

  15. I also like the idea of that Kelly Green you have in your home. I think it will go well with the black seat covers. This is my first comment on this blog, so I'll just say here that I read all your posts with delight (except for the skins on the floor - I'm a vegan), and I just LOVE your colour sense. You inspired me, all the way over here in South Africa, to get a replica of your black and white rug and paint my chest of drawers peacock blue - for my living room. I added a Kelly Green velvet cushion, and one with some real colour - and hey presto! You, Jennifer, someone who doesn't know me, has made over my living room to great effect. Thanks!

  16. I love a good stripe. I think a thin B&W will be a nice with some solid or textured pillows on top. As far as the barstools, glossy white would be a safe bet. Green would be so fun though!

I used to own that exact love seat! It was a bit awkward so I finally sold it to a friend. I would have never thought to use it at the dining room table, but I love that idea! Can't wait to see how it turns out! I love all of your colorful creations! Carpet under my barstools wouldn't last a week at our house of men!

  20. Not sure what happened to my response! Anyway, I love the settee and the black & white stripes will be awesome. Pillows will make it pop. My daughter had a similar one and used it with her dining room table. We called it "Central Perk" ~ "Friends" re-do. :) I think trying the green on the bar stools would be great! Looking forward to seeing the finished projects. I have too many ongoing myself!
