The laptop and camera were packed, batteries charged, memory card ready...I had planned to get several posts ready while we're on the road for a few days. Half way through the trip, I realized I forgot the hard drive that had all of my photos on it! My kids are already on Fall Break and we're out for a few days of fun. If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter (click over there on the right to follow) you can see what we're up to! I'll see you Monday! ...

AN EASY & ECONOMICAL WAY TO HANG WINDOW TREATMENTS
In my last post, I showed you my son's room . Today I wanted to share with you how I hung his window treatments-the quick, cheap, and easy way. For years we have had the valance with only the blinds, but have needed to add some panels to help block out the intense morning sun that this window gets. First of all, for the valance, I had metal stars that I think were meant to be candle holders (maybe?). They had a hole in the middle and I knew I wanted to use them to hang the valance. I glued a dowel that fit in the hole- wrapping some fabric around the end for a tighter fit- and used a dowel screw in the other end of the dowel rod. I glued a wooden plug to the front side of the star to cover the dowel rod and add some color. Then, the dowel can be screwed right into the wall. An anchor may be needed if you do not have a stud in the wall where you want the piece to go. When I made the valance I sewed some rib......

MY BOY'S ROOM
What do you get when you have an 11 year old boy who collects everything in the world, can't bear to throw things away, and loves to display it all? A MESS! Or, would this officially qualify as a HOT mess? I think so. :) After spending 8 hours last Saturday and filling two big bags full of trash, I'm ready to give you a little tour! Nothing is perfectly styled or "finished" yet, but here's where we are right now. This was the room when we moved in, after promptly removing the old carpet. Quite the blank slate, no? So far, all you've seen of my son's room on the blog is this (click here to read about it): I have some plans to make a few more drastic changes in the spring, but actually I'm pretty happy with his room as is, it just needs a few tweaks. We did some rearranging in order to try to fit the drum set in. He has been asked to play the drums for a little youth group praise band, so we needed t......

GLIMPSES OF FALL AROUND THE HOUSE
My theme (if you could even call it that) this year was simple and natural. Ya'll, I'm not kidding, this is the least amount of effort I've ever put in for fall decorating. The number of my autumn decorations used to rival Christmas for me, but this year I just didn't have it in me. As I thought about what I normally do , it was just A LOT. Cluttered. Too much for this year. So, I focused on the mantel and sprinkled a few reminders of the season around the rest of the house. I left my entry table almost as-is, but I kept it simple by switching out the summery flowers for sticks and feathers and added an oversized acorn. Have you broken out the best ever Autumn snack yet? I confess, a few of those pumpkins disappeared as soon as the photograph was finished. Quail knick-knacks have become one of my favorite things to pick up. Quails are special to my family-many of you know ......

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT {SEPTEMBER REWIND}
How can it possible be October 1? Really? My mind is spinning time is going by so fast! In case you missed it, here are the highlights from a few things that went on around here this past month. I shared my freshly painted kelly green back door, surrounded by my recently painted black interior doors. I showed you this fun and functional Bicycle Memo Wheel that my parents made for me, and gave some tips on how to make your own. After months of little projects here and there, I finally put everything together and completed the New Office . Last week I shared my $5 brass beauty lamp from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore shop. And lastly, I showed my Fall Mantel . Coming up this week I'm planning to show you the rest of my fall decor, how I put together the skirted bookshelves in the office, and a room in my house you've never seen before. See you tomorrow! ...
