Well, it's hard to believe but our Summer break has come to an end and everyone is all moved back to college around here! My daughter's first day of classes was yesterday, we moved her back to school a little over a week ago. For her sophomore year she is living in a different place than last year, which means a different arrangement and different needs! I'm so excited to share some of the spaces in her new apartment with you over the next week or so. Even if you don't have a college student you might need ideas for, I hope that you pick up some inspiration you might be able to use in your own home. Her bedroom has a corner outfitted with built in shelves and a built in desk which is pretty great, but we wanted to make the most of the space and make it functional and cute. We found some great pieces for her college apartment at Walmart to make this little work and study corner work well for her, all at budget friendly prices.
There was a chair for the desk that came furnished with the apartment, but I wouldn't want to sit in it to study for 5 minutes, much less the hours that I know she'll be spending here! This under $50 investment was worth it to me for her to have a solid, comfortable rolling desk chair.
We took advantage of the vertical space and filled the shelves with a combination of functional and decorative pieces.
All of the shelving is definitely a huge benefit but with no drawers, lots of storage baskets for smaller odds and ends were a must! It was so nice to grab this set of 4 matching ones without having to hunt for others that matched once I found one that worked like I usually do.
She really likes this little task desk lamp. With the adjustable neck it fits nicely in the space below the shelf above it and has a built in USB port and outlet- huge benefits when outlets are scarce!
Even with a planner and calendar on her phone, she prefers having a large desk calendar so she can see the big picture of all of the dates she needs to take note of. She had one like this last year too and definitely wanted another for this year.
The desk countertop wraps around the corner and she decided she wanted to make this side a little makeup vanity, perfect!
