HOW TO SET A PRETTY TABLE- SPRING/EASTER TABLESCAPE

Thank you all so much for your kind words on my Everything Home Magazine feature!  You all are the most supportive and encouraging readers around, and I'm so thankful to have you along on this journey with me!

Today I thought you might enjoy seeing how my tables usually come together.  I took some time when assembling this one to take step by step photos of each layer that went on the table.

I think that's one of the keys to a pretty table... layers!  I'll elaborate a little on each step-

1) Base-  this can be a runner, tablecloth, placemats, or I'm just using pieces of fabric more and more often.  I decide the size I want the piece to be, then iron the edges under for a crisp, even finish.  Sometimes I use a little bit of masking or painter's tape underneath to hold the edges in place (just make sure to iron first, then tape so your tape doesn't turn into a sticky mess on your fabric).  Sometimes I even have full tablecloths that I'd rather use as a runner, so I fold them into the desired size and iron down as well.

2) Plate stack- Regardless of your base, I think a good plate stack adds some needed heft to each place setting.  I almost ALWAYS use a charger (or woven round placemat) to add some visual weight to each place, then build plates on top of that.  For pretty photos, I stack a bunch of plates of varying sizes together, but obviously for the meal those plates would be separated and just used for each appropriate course.

3) Napkins and flatware-  There are so many different ways to arrange the napkin... in a ring, in a simple fold to the side, a fancy fold, with an embellishment,  folded under the plates... the options are limitless!

4) Centerpiece-  I like big, dramatic pieces in the center of the table, but just so you know they always get moved when it's time for the meal so we can see each other.  ;)

5) Lastly, add glasses and any other little accessories that you'd like to use like salt and pepper shakers, butter dishes, etc.

I shared my DIY pom pom napkin rings with you a few weeks ago, and obviously this is where they ended up!

That's all there is to it!  I really stick to using what I have, but have a decent supply of dishes and accessories to mix and match.  Most are staples, though, with a wide variety of uses.  I'll share those with you in the future.
