THANK YOU, AN UPDATE, AND PRETTY VIBURNUM PHOTOS

Happy Monday!  This week is a busy one, lots of appointments on the front end, taking my daughter shopping for some "professional" workwear outfits for some upcoming events she has, and 3 days of graduation festivities for my son at the end of the week!  Buckling my seatbelt and putting on my running shoes, it's going to be a doozy!  Today I just wanted to share a round up of pretty pictures I took around the house after I trimmed (whacked?) my viburnum bush and assembled 5 large bouquets.  They never last long but I sure do enjoy those fluffy blooms for a few days while I have them.

Several years ago I bought a couple of one gallon viburnum pots.  While they were small I planted them both in the bed around the side of the house intending to transplant one when they got larger.  They have a pretty fast growth rate and I never got around to moving one yet, I need to do that for sure this Fall!

I love to watch their bloom progression.  They start with bright green buds, stay bright green while the blooms are developing, then turn to snowy white.  These photos were each taken about 6 days apart, so it moves pretty fast!  I usually like to cut a bouquet when they are in the bright green stage too but totally missed that this year.

I'm also overdue with a huge thank you.  I appreciate the kind words and sentiments so many of you sent after I shared this post.  We're still in the thick of it but things are staying pretty steady with my Dad.  The results from a recent second bone marrow biopsy after he completed two rounds of chemo showed a decrease in his cancer cells.  Not as much as they would have liked to see, but still, better than where we started!  We also saw a new doctor on his team that we hadn't met with before who started him on a new medication for his joints.  We are rejoicing that it is making a difference in the pain in his legs and mobility!  He is able to use a walker now and walk for short distances, something that has not been happening at all for the past 3 months until we tried this medicine.  It's allowing him the ability to move around easier and do some things he hasn't been able to since February, so that's a moral booster for sure and we're grateful!  We are considering some different treatment options and what might be available elsewhere for his specific diagnosis, so if you're praying thank you, and please pray for wisdom as we continue to make so many decisions and try to understand his condition.  We're continuing to trust in the Lord to give us all strength as we walk through this together, and rest in the knowledge that He is in complete control!

Back to the Viburnum- I mentioned once I cut it, it usually only lasts a few days for me.  A follower on Instagram mentioned that Viburnum is in the hydrangea family and takes water in through it petals as well as stems/roots, so if you submerge the blooms for a while once they start to wilt it will revive them for a longer period of time!  I should have known that, I've shared that tip for hydrangeas in the past but it never occurred to me to try it with these.  If you've never tried it with hydrangeas, it's amazing!  Fill a large container or your sink with enough cool water to be able to submerge the petals and the stem, and after several hours or overnight they should perk back up.  Sometimes is doesn't work if they're too far gone, but most of the time it does work for me!

I appreciate you all being here so very much, and the ability to pop in and out with blog posts when I can during this season.  Definitely the best and worst of days for our family going on at the same time!  I do plan to be here with a couple of more posts this week, I have decorating and DIY/project posts I want to share with you if I can crank them out!  😁

  1. Beautiful flowers. I notice you mention your dad is using walker. So thankful with you he's able to move better. Want to let you know to check out the Elenker upright walker (Amazon). It has been a game changer for my mother in law and is less than 200$. She loves being able to stand upright. We get asked about it everywhere we go with it. Continued prayers for his healing.

  3. So glad to hear your dad has had a bit of positive news. I know you have many praying for him and all of you.. Just a couple other tips for both viburnum and hydrangeas that you may or may not know. Since viburnum, lilacs, forsythia etc are woody stems, cutting them as short as possible and hammering the end of the branches allows them to take in water more easily. Hydrangeas aren't considered woody stemmed, but they act in a similar manner. All of these flowers have SO many individual flowers in each cluster, hydrating is quite difficult for the plant. Cutting the stem as short as your container allows, makes for lesser distance for the water to travel to the flower group. Yours are fantastic looking bushes!

    1. I’m just a reader of this blog and I have a ton of hydrangeas that will be in full bloom next month, so thank you so much for these tips!

  4. Jennifer, I’m so glad that your dad is improving! I relate so much to you with older teens/college age kids, and also being in the proverbial “sandwich” of caregiving, with teens/young adults who still need me and aging parents who need support, as well.

My youngest, who’s finishing her highschool junior year, is headed to a few summer programs that require professional dress, and I have literally been scratching my head trying to come up with ideas for both business casual and business attire (ie she has to wear a suit a few days) that are youthful and she will feel cute in. Especially hard is the footwear as they say no sandals allowed, and there is a dearth of cute professional footwear for young women from what I’m seeing. Anyway, if you are so inclined to share your daughters options/choices in a blog post, I would be so grateful!!!

    1. Thank you Nicole!

I have no idea what we'll find today... I agree with you and have already thought this will probably be a challenge! My daughter doesn't like heels at all so yes, I think the footwear will also be challenging. If I come up with some good options I will share.

  7. Great news on your Dad. We will continue to keep you and your family in prayers.

Would it be possible that you could share information on where you purchased the gold mirror in the photo. I have seen the mirror in other photos and would love to have something similar on my house.

  8. Bless your heart! I have been in your shoes and it is a hard situation. I am so sorry to hear your dad is ill. I will say a prayer for him - for all of you. It is so hard on the family too. I know your mom is carrying a heavy load. We as Christians know that we can take our burdens to Jesus and I'm so happy your family knows this too. Take care of yourself too. (((hug)))

  9. Just take one day at a time, enjoy all the progress your dad is making and the celebrations with your children (I believe that God is taking care of you through the fun times with them, that's why all of this is going on at the same time!). Always keep the faith!! Faith gives me such a calm feeling when going through stressful times. I will continue to say prays for your dad for a FULL recovery!! Meanwhile, LOVE LOVE LOVE those flowers. All look so beautiful as does your home!
