SIXTEEN

I'm not sure how this day is already here, but we've blinked a few times and our sweet baby boy is 16 today.  Thank you for indulging me today as I gush and share about our boy...he is the "dimples" in Dimples and Tangles, after all!

Truly, when you're in the thick of raising babies and toddlers and hear others say "Enjoy this time, it goes by all too fast..." it's hard to see more than 5 minutes ahead of you and believe them.  But as our children grow older, it's all too true.  This time is fleeting.

Baby Dedication- First Baptist Church, Broken Arrow, OK

This boy... I can't even tell you how my heart melts and bursts with pride at the same time at the thought of him.

Those cheeks!  Those little fingers!

14 years later, he still loves trains!

We often receive compliments from friends about Caleb's sweet personality, responsibility, and kindness he shows towards others.  As nice as those are to hear, it's even more meaningful to me that he displays all of those characteristics at home, when no one is watching.  He does whatever is asked of him, usually right away and without a hint of a complaint.  He's always willing to pitch in with whatever we ask, and does the task with a happy heart.

He is loyal and committed to finish what he starts, and always considerate of others.  He's a pleaser!

As we cross milestone after milestone, I'm just so grateful for the fine young man he is becoming.

We could not be more proud of or more thankful for this boy, the Lord has given us a priceless treasure in him.

Caleb, we continue to pray Joshua 14:8 for you, which we claimed for you as we chose your name, that you would live a life faithful and obedient to the Lord, wholly following Him.  We love you, son.

  14. Hi Jennifer--It's Necolle from Arlington, VA. I read your post with tears of joy. I am also the proud mom of a sophomore who will turn 16 this summer. Time races by....from picking the right preschool to sending her on a mission trip to Tanzania this year. Your son sounds like a wonderful young man and I'm sure that he, like my Alaina, will achieve great things in the coming years. Before you know it we will be college hunting....yikes! Enjoy the ride and praise God for our many blessings.

  16. Happy belated birthday to your son! It seems he is a testament to what raising a child in the nurture and admonition of The Lord will produce! As a first time mom of a 5 month old girl, I find that encouraging.

  17. Who is standing next to you in the red jacket on the birthday? She looks to be your twin!

    1. She's my middle sister, we're 19 months apart and people did often mistake us for the other one when we were young. She is a beautiful soloist and after she sang in church people would always come up to me and tell me what a great job I did... ha!

  18. Jennifer, your blog is hands down my favorite so I'm embarrassed to admit I mostly stalk and don't comment often, but I just had to on this post. It brought me to tears! It's been so fun to see the glimpses of your kids over the years. The way you described Caleb shines through in the photos, as does his personality. I have two boys (11 "and a half!" and 8 "almost a half!") and I am finally seeing what you described .. our time with them is truly fleeting. I know my oldest will be 16 before I know it and I hope I will be able to describe him the way you did Caleb (definitely working on the responsibility part! *wink*). Raising our sons to be godly men in this world is a daily challenge so it encourages me to see the effort your family puts forth. Please tell Caleb to keep up the good work. XO
