SWEET SATURDAY #2

I think that simplifying and downsizing will continue to be a trend in the future.  I enjoyed this article about a fellow Oklahoma family (not too far from me!) who downsized and built a 1,000 square foot home from the ground up. They did some smart space planning and the home appears so spacious from the photos.  A family of 4 sharing one bathroom though...not sure I could do it!

If you're wanting to freshen up your Fall decor from the traditional orange, rust, yellow, and brown color mix, this article demonstrates some interesting color combinations and examples to inspire your Fall decor.

Are you watching the new Studio McGee Webisodes?  Just a few are out so far but with the lack of true design shows on HGTV, I'm looking forward to each one!

I really, really loved my kitchen lanterns painted red, but I decided I didn't really love the red in the kitchen.  So, they got a new paint job yesterday!  I didn't even bother to take them down...

Here's a quick iPhone pic sneak peek, you'll get a better look coming up this week!

Speaking of the coming week, A Stroll Thru Life is hosting the 2016 Fall Home Tours on Monday.  Start there Monday morning then follow along through 6 tours each day.  I'll be in the rotation on Thursday with my first Fall Home Tour of the season.

It feels SO early for me, but we do this early so you all will get some great ideas when you're ready to get your Fall decor out.  For now, I'm keeping things pretty simple with just a nod to the season ahead.  Here's a peek (and the only spot that's decorated so far!  ;)  I have my work cut out for me today.)

See you on Monday, I came across something today that I can't wait to tell you about!

    1. Actually, I DIDN'T bother with the plastic for half of the first one when I was experimenting. I just held a piece of poster board behind the area I was spraying to catch the overspray. Worked fine, but I got a layer of dry paint dust all over the flat kitchen surfaces that I had to wipe up. Glad I went to the trouble to make my little paint booth, just to catch all of that dust if nothing else!

  4. I love that you're not afraid to take risks in decorating...literally (standing on countertops!! Ha!) and decoratively (red lanterns!! Okay, never mind...GOLD lanterns!)

    1. Ha! I know, I know... nothing is safe around here! ;) I LOVED the red, but after living with them this year decided it wasn't a good fit for such an open space. If my kitchen was self contained I totally would have stuck with it!

    2. You've given me an itchy spray painting finger! :)

  6. Jennifer..love the gold! How do you have the plastic paint booth attached/assembled to your ceiling? I could use a paint booth in my life!

    1. Lisa, it's just taped up with masking tape! It's just that super lightweight sheet of plastic so it held well. The ceiling itself isn't actually covered, I wasn't working that closely to it or spraying upward, just down and straight across, so it worked.

  7. Ok, I think this might be my favorite post series yet. I don't know, I like random goodies! Oh, and the lanterns look awesome ;)

  8. I love your lanterns painted gold, you did a great job! How did you get the piece that fits up on the ceiling gold without getting paint everywhere? Can't wait to see your Fall home tour! Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Debbie, the canopy and chain were already painted gold down to the red lanterns, so I didn't have to get that close to the ceiling. I could have still done it if I had taped off around the ceiling and covered it too, but glad I didn't have to do that!

I loved the red... But the gold is gorgeous!

  10. That mask is not good enough- you need to get a professional respirator mask

  11. I love the change to gold. In fact I got my latest Ballard Design catalog yesterday and there were chandys remarkably similar to yours. Keep up the good work. -- Stacye
