HOW TO PAINT ODD SHAPES WITH FROGTAPE® SHAPE TAPE

HOW TO PAINT ODD SHAPES WITH FROGTAPE® SHAPE TAPE

I have been so excited to try out FrogTape's® new Shape Tape!  I have long been a fan of FrogTape® and the crisp lines that are a result of it's PaintBlock® Technology.  You may think painter's tape is painter's tape, but this one is super scientific!  PaintBlock® is a super-absorbent polymer that reacts with latex paint and instantly gels to form a barrier, sealing the edges of the tape.  Sounds tricky, but it truly prevents paint bleeding and gives a perfectly clean edge!  I have used the traditional FrogTape® for several projects, and have been so pleased and amazed at the fantastic results. Recently, FrogTape® has come out with a new line of Shape Tapes.  They are available in Chevron, Wave, or Scalloped patterns and open up a whole world of creative possibilities!  I recently tried the Wave pattern on a project I've been wanting to do for a long time. Immediately upon opening the container, there were a few things that I noticed that I really liked. ...

CLEANING OUT

I've finally reached a turning point.  The point where I'm ready to GET RID of things.  Sure, I've had garage sales and let things go in the past, but this time I'm serious.  I'm past thinking "Maybe I'll need this at our next house," or "Maybe I'll need this for a new vignette," or "Maybe I'll need this for     fill in the blank     ".  I'm actually ready to get rid of every little thing I'm tired of or I don't LOVE completely.  I'm ready to be brutal. That's a big deal for me.  I have LOTS of pretty things that I enjoy rotating and switching in and out of use, but it's stuff that crowding every nook and cranny of our closets and cabinets and garage and attic, and I'm D.O.N.E.  Actually, I'm feeling a bit suffocated by it all, so it's time.  I think I had to get to the point of feeling that way to be ready to let go of so much.  I'm ready to value the space rather than the stuff. ...

5TH GRADE GRADUATION SCHOOL GYM DECORATIONS AND TEACHER GIFTS

Hi friends!  I'm in for a Saturday post today.  Things got a little crazy this week as we prepared to wrap up school yesterday, so I wanted to catch you up today. Fifth grade is the last year of Elementary school for us, and our school celebrates with a graduation ceremony.  I was responsible for decorating the gym and thought I'd share a few ideas with you.  Gyms are hard to decorate!  ;) There is an 8x24 ft. folding partition for the backdrop.  I covered it with black butcher paper (ever tried to hang a 24' long strip of paper by yourself...straight?  It's tough!). I made some register marks with a black sharpie (didn't show afterwards) to keep things semi- lined up over such a large area.  Then, I went to town with the chalk.  I kept it on the simple side, and I like that it ended up resembling a chalkboard, even though that wasn't necessarily the plan.  That's usually how I operate.  I never can tell anyone what they can do to help, because I just a...

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES, BUT COME MEET A NEW FRIEND!

Well, I was all set with a post that I wanted to share with you today, and as I was working on it last night, of course, I couldn't find 1 or 2 little pictures that I needed.  They're somewhere buried in a few thousand pics on my memory card.  I'll need a little more time to look through and find them.  I've got to find a better system!  I'm bad about not downloading them very often, or naming them, so there are just thousands of numbered photos on my card to flip through.  I'm all ears for good suggestions for dealing with photos! So, instead, I have an introduction for you today.  Meet my friend (in real life!) Emily from Eleven Gables.  Don't you just love her blog name?  We grew up going to church together.  We bought my first (used) car when I was 16 from her brother (a cherry red 1982 Camaro with a moon roof...sometimes I wish I still had that car!).  We went on youth group ski trips filled with laughter and pillow fights together.  Her family alway...

BALLARD BOTANICAL PRINTS {HIGH/LOW}

BALLARD BOTANICAL PRINTS {HIGH/LOW}

A few days ago I was quickly flipping through a Ballard Designs catalog when this page caught my eye: I love the botanical prints (and the wood wall, and the black cabinet, and the rattan charis...)!  And then I saw the price: Whoa!  I'm sure the prints are very nice quality and I realize they come framed, but that little display on the magazine page would set one back a pretty penny.  $1200 to be exact! I think I started to appreciate my botanical grouping even more.  The entire DIY collection (20 frames rather than 12 in the Ballard ad) totaled just under $100. Granted, my pictures are pages taken from a book, matted on posterboard, and mounted in inexpensive plastic frames, but for over an $1100 savings, I'll take it.  And, Good Housekeeping even loved it enough to print it in their magazine! You can read how I made my botanical gallery wall here , and here are a few more super stylish and affordable DIY botanical wall ideas.  If you'd like to pin...

AUDREY HEPBURN INSPIRED WALL ART {SUMMER STYLE SOIREE}

Welcome to our first project of the Summer Style Soiree!  If you're new here, I'm so glad you're visiting.  Many thanks to Heather from Southern State of Mind who is the mastermind behind this little series and challenged us to create some projects through the summer inspired by four famous fashion icons.  We're starting off today with the beautiful Audrey Hepburn! Well, my choice is no big surprise, but this image of Audrey inspired my project: via She was a lover of black and white stripes too.  She also had a number of fun quotes, and I chose a line out of this one to highlight. via I started with a thick 18" canvas that I picked up at the thrift store for a few dollars.  Cute, but I had other plans for it.  I think cashier was a little dismayed when I told her I'd be painting over it. I knew I wanted to have some variation in the lettering, and for the emphasized words to have a colorful, abstract feel.  I started by making off th...
