Torture

Forget water-boarding, starvation, sleep deprivation.  I propose a new punishment for any enemies of our country:  Stripping down upholstered furniture!  More specifically, pulling staple, after staple, after staple, after staple....

Ugh!  Is this not the worst job ever??? (Stripping wallpaper comes in at a close 2nd place!)

Happily, I discovered that the seats from these chairs can be removed.  That will make them much easier to work with.  Just the seat took over 2 hours to clean off.  Check out the front section... 3 LAYERS of staples!...on top of the cardboard strip, under the strip, and under the cording.  Lovely.

About 1/2 way through I went and got this little jewel-

It helped tremendously.  Still hard work, but this was much better than the flat head screwdriver and needle nose pliers I had been using.

WELL over 3 hours later-

I think I'm developing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

One down,

One to go.

Surely the re-upholstery will be a snap after this.  Famous last words.

Thanks for letting me whine today.  :)

  3. Oh. My.

I can just FEEL your pain coming through my screen. Good news is, "those babies got great bones". Hahaha.

    And...you're funny. :)

I have never attempted that level of re-upholstery. Should I pray for you? ;)

  4. Oh.my.gosh.girl! That is a BIG job. You have serious ambitions these days! I'm so excited to see these chairs in their completion. This job looks like it's right up there with my most hated of all DIYs, sanding and painting stair spindles. Maybe we should have a "what's the worst DIY job you ever did?" party and celebrate that we made it through them!! Good luck with the second one!

  5. Leave it to a little tool to do the hard work. I don't think I could ever attempt to re-upholster but kudos to you for doing so :)
