April 2022 - Dimples and Tangles

Mother's Day is right around the corner and I've got you covered with my Mother's Day Gift Guide ideas  if you need some help!  I've selected all of these to share with you because they are either something I already have and love or I would appreciate and think any other Mom would too.

Because the big day is quickly sneaking up on us, I also tried to choose things that have a fairly quick ship time.  I believe most of these should arrive by Mother's Day (although I've been know to wrap an IOU note for things that don't arrive in time- ha!).  Click on photo for more details, and I've also linked each item below with my thoughts about it.

Cane Decorative Box Set- I've admired this gorgeous set, as as of the time I'm publishing this post they're on a really good sale!  They are a generous size and would be beautiful on a coffee table, Entry table, bookshelf, or anywhere you want some pretty concealed storage.  Use stacked together or split the set!

Chippendale Planter Set- These are the perfect size to pop some ferns or a hanging basket of flowers (just pop off the hanger piece) into for an instant pretty porch or patio!

Rifle Paper Company Mug- Love the designs from this company!

Family Tree Birthstone Initial Bracelet- This bracelet caught my eye because it's so unique.  Fully customizable for your family, the birthstone "leaves" represent your family tree with an initial charm for each child attached.  Pretty!

Soft Classic Shorts Pajamas Set- Who wouldn't want a cozy, soft set of pjs?  These are highly rated and have many color options.

Lightweight Robe- to accompany those pjs, this is the perfect fabric for warmer seasons.  Get it monogrammed to make it extra special!

Clinique Happiness Perfume Set- Fun to sample different kinds and it's travel size!

Vegetable and Herb Wood Cutout Garden Markers- these are visually interesting, I suspect garden lovers would be thrilled with them!

The Southern Entertainer's Cookbook-  I own this book and everything I've cooked out of it is just perfection, AND, the photos are gorgeous!

Bust Planter- fun accessory for indoors or outdoors.

Blue White Ginger Jar- can't have a gift guide without blue and white! 😂

Personalized Tote- Another thing I always include on my gift guides, they're that good!  I own 3 of these totes and can't say enough about the quality.  One if them goes with me on every single trip and I can't tell you how heavy they are when I load them down with all of my stuff... they continue to look brand new!  So fun to customize with tons of pattern and color choices, monogram options, etc. and many other styles and travel pieces are available.

Memory Foam Indoor/Outdoor Bow Slipper Slides- These are so cute for warmer weather.  Over 11K near perfect ratings and 5 colors!

Round Marble and Gold Tray- I have this tray and it's perfect for so many spots.  Good for an appealing food spread or pretty base for a group of accessories.

Chinoiserie Hand Towels Set of 2-  Stumbled on these and I think they are fabulous!  Perfect as is or add a monogram.

Herringbone Fringe Throw Blanket-  I love these throws for more decorative uses like adding some color to the back or a sofa or chair or across the end of the bed, but they're a soft lightweight throw as well.  Several colors.

Cozy Plush Leopard Throw Blanket-  Super soft for a little more warmth.

Blue and White Garden Stool-  one of my favorite pieces at a great price!

Twisted Rope Hoop Earrings- This super affordable brand is great quality.  I own a different style that I wear often and the finish has not worn or tarnished one bit. 14K gold plated, the rope design feels classic, a bit vintage, and a little more special than a basic hoop.

Easter is just a few days away, and I thought I'd share this quick and easy Orange Cake recipe that would be a tasty addition to your menu!

I got this recipe years ago from a sweet lady in our church who shared it with me, and agreed to share it with all of you as well!  She's the same one that I mentioned in this post when I found a pair of these darling dalmatian bookends that used to belong to her mother wrapped and dropped off of my porch one day, just because she knew I would love them.  I treasure them and was touched by her generous kindness and thoughtfulness!

So let's make the cake!  Here's what you'll need-

On a side note, can I just say how much I love this little thrifted TG&Y measuring cup?  It brings back such fond memories growing up of visiting our local TG&Y on Saturdays, perusing the toys then later in Elementary and Middle School the clothes, accessories, and purses.   They were Walmart before there was Walmart!  We had TG&Y stores in Oklahoma, but I'm curious what other states they might have been in too.

Orange Cake

1 box white cake mix
1 box orange jello (3 oz., not sugar free)
4 eggs
3/4 cup water
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix ingredients well with mixer on medium speed for 1-2 minutes.  Pour into greased & flour dusted bundt pan.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes (toothpick should come out clean but don't overbake).  Cool for 10-15 minutes and remove from pan.

1 cup powdered sugar
juice of 1/2 orange
Optional: drop or two of orange food coloring, orange zest

Whisk glaze ingredients together until smooth.  Powdered sugar+orange juice proportions might vary.  Glaze should be thick but pourable.  Drizzle glaze over the top.   Serve at room temperature or chilled if desired.  It's probably best if made the day before to allow time for the flavor to really set in!

*Optional flavors:  substitute lemon jello and juice of 1 whole lemon for orange ingredients above, or I think it would be good with lime jello and lime juice as well!

It literally took about 5 minutes to get this cake ready for the oven.  Such a time saver when there are multiple dishes that need to be made, yet it's so yummy it tastes like you spent hours on it!

I will say, I'm pretty proud of these darling little orange peel flowers I made!  I had sliced off the end of an orange and when I was embellishing the cake for some reason I saw that little round piece and thought the stem looked like the center of a flower, so I used my kitchen shears and cut the edges to look like petals.

The other orange pieces are just slices, then I made a slit to the center and twisted the slice open.  I used a few toothpicks where needed to secure them to the cake.  Grate a bit of the orange peel to sprinkle on top if you'd like to garnish with that as well.

So easy and tasty!  I had some extra glaze so drizzled a bit more on the top of each cut side before serving.  We got to sample the prop pieces last night and my husband just closed his eyes and say "Mmmm!  That is so good!"  I know my Mother-in-law would love hers with a cup of coffee.

This is such a fresh, light, flavorful cake for Spring and Summer gatherings.  I think you'll love it, let me know if you try it some time!  (I'm going to try it with lime flavors next time!)

Easter is right around the corner, and my table is set to share with you!  Pastels are typically the traditional color palette for Easter, but I'm sure you're not surprised that I opted for my favorite blue/green/pink color combo for a bold and colorful Easter table this year.

Green, Pink, Blue and White Easter Table

I've been on the lookout for some new cute Spring and Easter dresses for some events I have coming up.  I picked up a couple of new dresses that I wanted to share with you today and found some other darling options that I thought you might like too!  (*This post contains affiliate links, including Amazon. First up, I knew as soon as I saw this dress it was perfect for me, I mean... red, pink, and ruffles!  It's technically a midi dress, but I wanted a little more length so I ordered a Tall (I'm about 5' 7").  I found it to be true to size, but the chest might lean a little tight if you have a larger chest or really broad shoulders. And I'm sharing on the perfect day, it's 50% off with code SHOP! I have a DIY in mind for this dress too just to make it a little more extra.... ha!
