I'm sharing a personal life update post today. So many of you have been faithful readers over a lot of years and have been so sweet to be interested in the happenings of our family that I felt we needed to share this news with you. We are in the middle of a huge change and are turning the page to start a new chapter in our lives! After 22 years of Ray being a Minister on staff, last Sunday we said farewell to Quail Springs Baptist Church.
As we shared the news early in September with our new pastor and the church family that the Lord told us that our time at Quail was over, everyone was shocked and surprised but the Lord has been working in our hearts about this decision for almost 4 years.
We came to QSBC in 2003 when Ray was called as the Minister of Education. In 2009 he transitioned to the Executive Pastor and through our 22 years there he's worked with 3 Senior Pastors and led the church through 2 significant interim seasons in between pastors.
In the time leading up to his 20th Anniversary two years ago, he felt the Lord beginning to stir in his heart that our time at Quail would be coming to an end. We didn't know at the time what that meant or what the timing would be, but he did know that he had several commitments he felt compelled to complete. He was dedicated to continue working and serving to fulfill those commitments, all the while being sensitive to the Lord's timing and leading for our- and the church's- future.
I shared with you in a previous post that early this summer we welcomed a new Senior Pastor and his family. We love them so much already and are excited about the future for QSBC under his leadership. As we had prayed for months over the interim asking the Lord to send the exact right person to be the new Pastor, getting to know him and his family and sitting under his teaching confirmed in our hearts that the Lord answered those prayers in His perfect way. And with our confidence in his love for the people and leadership and vision for the church, and with Ray being finished with all of the personal commitments he had over these past few years, we knew the Lord was telling us that now was the time to leave. It was a bittersweet decision for sure, but we completely trust how the Lord is directing us.
It was certainly not a decision that was made lightly, as I mentioned we have prayed over and prepared for this change for several years. On our family vacation in the mountains in August, the Lord confirmed once and for all that He was calling us to GO do something different, and that meant that we couldn't STAY where we were at the same time. Ray announced to the church in early September that we would be leaving, then spent the month wrapping things up. (Here's the video- start around minute 16- of him sharing if you want to hear his own words.)
Our sweet church family gave us an incredible sendoff farewell reception last Sunday. All month fellow staff members and church members have shared the sweetest meaningful memories with us- things that might seem routine or insignificant to us but meant the world to them- and those stories have meant so much to hear.
Our incredible Communications Director and Media Associate created a video to share at the reception. We had no idea about any of this but they asked the kids to write a letter to us about our years of serving. They secretly came to town and filmed it, needless to say it was hard to hold it together while this was playing! What a treasure.
Our church family blessed us with the biggest pile of cards and gifts- we're still working our way through them and will be writing thank you notes for weeks!
We have spent 2/3 of our married life serving at QSBC. When we started there, Caleb was 2 and Emily was 4 months old, they don't know another church and what a blessing it has been to raise them in one place their entire growing up years.
Serving there was our life for 22 years - Sunday School, youth camps, Vacation Bible School, building projects, Monday night visitation, hospital calls, retreats, banquets, choir tours, funerals, Christmas Eves, business meetings, special events, weddings, staff leadership, parties in our home, mission trips, weddings, funerals, Lord's Suppers, discipleship classes, Thanksgiving dinners, planning meetings, Easters, services week in and week out... so needless to say, this place and the people there will always be near and dear to our hearts.
So what's next? We don't know yet. We didn't feel right about looking for a new position before sharing with the pastor and the church, so we are waiting on the Lord to fill us in and lead us toward what He wants us to do next. We are taking a little bit of time to rest and continue to listen to His leading. Ray definitely has a specific skill set for church ministry, leadership, and people development, so we'll see what the Lord has in store for us!
We are confident and encouraged as we look back over the years to see the countless ways in which God has always been faithful, and are now excited to see how He proves that to be true in the months to come. We would appreciate your prayers for wisdom and direction if the Lord brings us to your mind!

Best wishes to you and your family! I’m sure the right door will open and your mission will continue. May you find peace and purpose as you move forward.

ReplyDeleteDitto ti the comments above! I will pray!
ReplyDelete♥️🙏🏻♥️
ReplyDeleteYour family is so loved. There are so many memories with your family and how each of you have touched and meant to ours. Ray has served so well. I am so proud you and Ray are stepping out in Faith for the next adventure. We will continue to pray for you and Ray.
ReplyDeleteJennifer I know God has big plans for Ray and you. My family will sure miss seeing you but we will be praying for the next chapter in your lives🙏
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. I will definitely keep you and Ray in my prayers for wisdom, guidance, and God's perfect timing.
ReplyDeletePraying for Gods will for all of you. (is it OK to ‘suggest’ He bring you to Denver?). Exciting times!
ReplyDeletePraying with you and Ray as God opens doors for this new season of ministry. You minister, whether you consciously do it or not, through your blog. This world is dark at times but you bring light in so many ways. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful and exciting! And how beautiful and wise that you are trusting a known Father with the unknown future plans for your family. Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and He will establish your plans. Prayers for peace while you wait for His leading and direction.
ReplyDeleteMay God guide you both in the next chapter of your lives & we will be anxious to see where that will be! God bless you both!
ReplyDeleteMay the Lord bless you as you go forward. What a blessing to have your church family praying for you as you go out.
ReplyDeleteI have followed your blog for at least 10 years. When all was white and gray in the home design world your love of color and style brought joy to my heart. I too am a pastor's wife and I totally understand God's calling and the changes He can bring. Sometimes easy and sometimes a challenge but always with God's presence and love. May the next season bring you to a deeper relationship with God and also with your family and community. God bless you Jennifer! PS, my husband is from Oklahoma and we lived in Lawton for three years. I am a Pennsylvania girl and that is where we currently live. We are retired now.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you richly as you pray and wait on God’s call on your lives. You and your husband were obviously well loved and respected at your church. What a beautiful send off and goodbye for your family. I feel certain that God has the perfect job for your husband. Will continue to look forward to your posts, Jennifer.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this personal update for all of us who don't live in OK and don't attend QSBC. While I came for your fashion and design, it was clear early on that you and your family were sharing your life in a special way. I pray that the wheels of change are already in motion for the right position for Ray-church, missions or organizational leadership. He's a gifted servant of God and I know you will both follow God's call on your life. Praying for peace, relaxation and restoration for this time in your life. Jeremiah 29:11 has been my life verse and I am praying it over your family now. Thank you for blessing all of your followers.
ReplyDeleteYou are a beautiful family, and I know the Lord has something very special for each of you as you seek his direction. My then husband and I joined the church in the early 1980s when our children were young. We had the privilege of seeing our children grow up at QSBC and married there as they began new chapters of their lives. I’m grateful that Ray was there to pray with me when I went through a very painful time of my life. May God bless you and your family as you continue to seek His direction on your next ministry opportunity. In Him, Jane
ReplyDeletePraying that your ears will always be open to hear what plans God has for you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a step of faith! Thanks for sharing the journey with us and please know we will be praying that God’s voice will crystal clear.
ReplyDeleteJust still trying to figure out why you are leaving a church you love so much. I did not see it in this announcement.
ReplyDeleteWill you attend Sunday services at Quail until you “find” another church?
Praying for you and Ray! What an adventure you’re on when you allow God free rein! I’m excited to follow the next chapter!
ReplyDeleteYour love for the Lord and for these people is so clear here- all the ways you have shown care, faithfully, over these years is very sweet to see. Waiting to find a new position is just one way this is demonstrated.
ReplyDeleteYour love for your church (QSBC) is evidence of God’s grace in your lives. He is good and does good. I look forward to seeing what He has in store next.
Congratulations and Godly blessings for your family and future endeavors.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see where God leads your sweet family. Your Faiths has always been an inspiration to me and I'll be praying for a clear direction from God.
ReplyDeleteYou and your family will certainly be in my prayers. I have followed your blog for some time now. I was first drawn to your style but later fell in love with you and your family because you openly glorify God in all you do. I am sure that The Lord will put you in the right place and others will be greatly blessed with your presence.
ReplyDeleteJennifer you and your husband have served the Lord well and now He has a new mission and adventure for you
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your story. I can't wait to hear about the next chapter. Blessed!
What an exciting time! How brave you and Ray are, but I think you have the assurances from prayer that this is the right move for you and your family. I loved all the photos you put in the post of your family through the years- so sweet! I wish you all the best and you will definitely be in my prayers!
ReplyDeleteI discovered your blog about 2 years ago and have so enjoyed it. At 69 I am a little fearful of social media; but anyone who loves blue and white like my sweet mama did I knew was someone special. It is heartwarming to see a beautiful young woman such as yourself living out her Chistian faith. I have purchased several items you have recommended. I share with my grown daughters your ideas and suggestions. Thank you. Will have you and your family in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteMy family moved to Edmond in 2003, we only were there a short time of 2 years, but quickly fell in love with the area and the people. Our youngest was enrolled at QSBC mother's day out, and he loved it. One of the cutest things happened on his way to "school" one morning. All of a sudden an excited little voice said "I see my school!" I said "You do?" He responded with "See! Its got a horn!" I wrote that down in his baby book and will always remember his time at the school with the "horn," as a sweet time for him. Much love and God speed in finding your families new adventure.
