Hello everyone! Today I'm catching you up on what's going on around our house... projects in process and little updates in our family life that some of you enjoy reading.
After adding it in at Christmas, I've really been loving the hot pink/red combo. Last year I began adding in a touch of hot pink when I got my new rug in the Entry and now I'm adding in a little bit more in other areas of the house. On our last trip to Ikea I found these new hot pink pillow covers (love the $4 Gurli covers...available in so many colors!) and bought a few. I planned to monogram them and when I came across this pagoda frame design I thought it would be perfect. I used the largest size that my hoop would allow and first thought it might be too small, but it's grown on me and I like the subtle tone on tone detail that the red thread adds.

Speaking of pillows and mixing hot pink with red, I bought a couple of yards of this fabric to make some new pillows for Spring and Summer. I love the vibrant colors, the design, and the sassy monkeys.
Our son turned 17 a few weeks ago! This already has been and will continue to be a big year for him. He traveled to England with the school band to perform in London's New Year's Day Parade and will travel with a group to East Asia this summer. He'll be a pro international traveler before the year is over!
For his birthday gift, we went to the Stockyards and he picked out his first pair of cowboy boots. Yee-haw! I think he's worn them just about every day since then.

Our plan right now is to leave the finish wood toned, although it needs some refinishing work if we do that. I'll want to remove the design on the doors and there are some scratches and issues to deal with. However, our plan isn't solid yet so I'm still open to painting it. I found some inspiration pics and it looks SO good and fresh with a coat of paint!
It came with a matching pair of mirrors. I will attach them back on the dresser like it came, but am trying to find just the right spot for them and can totally see them painted a bright glossy color.
Caleb is taking Wood Shop again at school this year. He got to choose his project for this semester, so he's making me a new dining table for the patio! We went and rounded up most of the supplies he'll need and I'm so excited to see how it turns out.
Another big milestone over the weekend- we had our first college visit! It was a great day and he was impressed with the programs and facilities available for what he's interested in studying. Mamas of little ones, believe it... the time with them goes by SO quickly!
I'm working on several projects that I'll be ready to show you soon. They're mostly smaller maintenance type projects that aren't big makeovers, but sometimes little details make a big difference!
I've wanted to add wallpaper to the backs of the living room shelves for a long time. As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I'm enjoying adding some pink into my color scheme and think a hot pink lattice or trellis print would be nice with the blue and white and green. The bottom sample leans a little more towards purple/pink in real life and the top sample is really my favorite, but I'm trying to decide if it's too bubble-gum pink instead of the hot pink I'm looking for. (The edges of the bamboo pattern are a dark pink but that's hard to tell here.) Also, this cabinet is right up against the brick so I'm trying to decide if those colors will work. Still looking a little and thinking about options for this project, there are a few other changes I'm considering in the room that y'all don't know about yet. ;)

Hi, Jennifer, I just bought some grasscloth wallpaper last week to go in the back of my bookshelves. I haven't decided how I will attach the paper and am curious as to how you will install yours. This is a project that I've wanted to do for a long time and I think it will look great when it's done. Both of your papers look really good and since I like them both, I guess I'm no help. :)

Hi Barbara! Grasscloth will look wonderful on your shelves! I actually used some in my built in hall china cabinet. It's been so long since I did it that I don't remember for sure, but I think I just used a double sided tape along the edges. I'm not sure what I'll do on these shelves, but I don't think I'll paste it up like wallpaper because I'm sure I won't want it to be that permanent.
DeleteI've also had this post saved and am keeping it in mind, it looks like a good method-although tedious- to be able to remove the paper later if needed. I'll keep you posted with what I decide to do, but I'm sure your project will be finished by then! ;)

ReplyDeleteI love the design of the purple-y wallpaper, but since it's not the color you want, have you considered getting out your paintbrush and giving it a fast make-over? Just some hot pink right down the center of each of the lines in the pattern should do the trick. It'll be a little time consuming, but after all you went through for the powder room buffalo checks, I think you can handle it! Good luck!
