MY FIVE FAVORITE THRIFTED FINDS

Thank you all for all of your nice comments on my Spring Entry tour yesterday.  I loved reading which was your favorite out of the 3 ways I styled it!

Welcome to My Five Favorites today!  Pam from Simple Details, Lisa from Shine Your Light, Kris from Driven by Decor and I are all so excited to share our favorites in a different category with you each month.  Today we're sharing our favorite thrifted finds, which includes anything found at a yard sale or thrift store, off of Craigslist, beside the curb on trash day... anything that is secondhand!

I'm so excited to welcome our guest host The Makerista today.  Gwen could not be a more perfect fit for this month's theme!  She loves color and decorates with a mostly traditional flair and a slightly modern twist thrown in, and has quite the knack for incorporating the old with the new.  She is not afraid to do her own thing, and her home is packed full of her unique ideas and personality!  I love her Stories on Instagram also when she shares what catches her eye while she's out thrifting... well, I love AND hate those stories because I'm not close enough to go scoop up some of the things she leaves behind!  I always enjoy seeing what others purchase secondhand, though, and catching their vision for what a piece could become.

Oh my goodness, it was so hard for me to narrow down my 5 choices today, since half of my house is thrifted or secondhand!  I couldn't choose just 5 specific items, so instead I'm sharing categories with some of my favorite finds in each.  I think I'm so drawn to secondhand pieces because beyond the thrill of the hunt for something fabulous, there is such variety and uniqueness to be found, as well as generally better quality when you're shopping for furniture.  Yes, it might involve some elbow grease and work to get the piece updated or usable for your space, but it's worth it!

LIGHTING

Buying secondhand lighting is such a good way to inject personality and originality into your decor.  Even is the finish is dated or the wiring is bad, those a both fairly easy fixes.  For the most part, this is also an item where you can save a lot of money buying second hand for your home.

I was thrilled to find these vintage Ethan Allen blue and white lamps on CL a few years ago, they just needed an updated pair of shades.

DISHES AND TABLETOP

I have acquired quite a collection of milkglass, one or two pieces at a time from a yard sale or thrift store here and there.  I use these pieces often for everything from planters to jewelry or desk organizers to tableware.

Sometimes it helps to have a partner in crime, who loves thrifting just as much as you do.  I got a text from my sister with a photo of these napkins while she was thrifting one day,  asking if I wanted them.  Why, yes I do!  (Funny thing, I didn't see her text until later when she had already left the store, but she bought them anyway because she knew I would want them!  Good girl! ;)

MIRRORS

Secondhand mirrors are usually SO easy to find, and if you're patient, you'll come across a special one sooner or later.  Or even if it's not a particularly special size or shape, thrifted mirrors can be a fun item to experiment with paint and color on the frame to add personality.

ACCESSORIES

As exciting as it is to score a big ticket item, the smaller things can be just as fun to hunt for, too!  You truly never know what you will find.

FURNITURE

Oh, where do I start!  Honestly, I can hardly bring myself to darken the door of a "real" furniture store when we're in need of a particular piece.  This is the one thing I browse on Craigslist the most often.  I'm always on the lookout for something different and unusual, or that I can make over to suit our needs.  I could probably pick 20 things from my home to share here, but these are a few of my favorites.

Do you enjoy hunting for good secondhand treasures?  What's your favorite thing you've ever found?  Be sure to head over to Simple Details, Shine Your LightDriven by Decor, and The Makerista to check out their favorite thrifted finds, too!

  8. Really you have a wonderful collection. I think, When you're thrift store shopping, it's important to have a really good idea of the style and type of pieces you're searching for. It saves time and helps you to achieve the look your're going for, on a fraction of the budget.
