NEW (VINTAGE) CRYSTAL CHANDELIER AND DINING ROOM SOURCE LIST

A few weeks ago I gave you a peek of my latest Craigslist purchase, a vintage crystal empire style chandelier.  I've finally had a chance to get it all cleaned up, and Ray installed it for me a few nights ago.  I think I'm in love!

I have wanted to switch the dining room light out for something this style for quite a while, but I was patiently waiting on Craigslist, and it took some time for this right piece at the right size and price to be listed.  With the sweet flower accents, this one is different than any others I had seen in the past.

Here's the photo from the listing on Craigslist.  I wanted to show you a few tweaks that I made on the light.  I'm keeping the old dining room light that we removed in the attic to reinstall just in case we ever move.  However, it had gorgeous crystals on it and there was no way I was packing those up too!  I started looking at the vintage chandelier and didn't really like the small string crystals  hanging around and under the candles, so I used all of the crystals from my other light in those spots instead.

We also completely added some large prisms to the flower petals on the top by drilling a small hole into the bottom tip of each one so I could attach it with it's wire.   I have no idea (and don't really care) if I completely ruined the integrity of the style, but I like it even better now!  It's *right* on the verge of maybe being a tad too small for the space, but the larger crystals made it a bit more substantial, and definitely added even more sparkle!

A sweet reader suggested replacing the plastic candle covers with real beeswax sleeves.  I'm not sure yet if I'll look into that or keep what's here.  I did order a crystal ball prism to add to the center bottom after playing around with how something would look there and I think I'll like it.  This piece also has a very yellow hue to the brass, which another reader thought is probably lacquered brass.  I don't think I want to go to the trouble of having the lacquer stripped off, but I might entertain the thought some day of toning it down a bit with some rub & buff (does that make anyone cringe?).    ;)

This piece is definitely fancy and formal, but you all know I like to mix styles and colors, and pretty much anything that catches my eye goes around here.  You've heard it before but it's so true, buy what you love and it will work in your home!

I don't think I've ever done a full source list for the Dining Room all in one spot, so I'm taking this opportunity to share everything here.

China Cabinet- Craigslist, paint color- Behr Pine Scent, Makeover details
Vintage Wingback Cane Chairs- Craigslist, Makeover Tutorial and details
Round Back Chairs- TJ Maxx, Chair Back Makeover here
Brass Ginger Jars and Blue Lanterns- At Home Stores (probably no longer available)
Orchid Centerpiece- bowl from Homegoods, Orchid DIY here
Various Blue and White Pieces- Ross, Homegoods, and thrifted

Obviously, I do like to use secondhand, vintage, and bargain pieces in my rooms, but those can't always be sourced to share with you.  So, I've searched to find some items online if you're looking for something similar.

  4. It looks beautiful, and the extra crystals are the perfect addition to the sparkle! Well done, I'm sure that was a lot of work. Having put together a large pottery barn Clarissa chandelier where you have to attach every crystal with wires that you bend, I understand. And my crystals were mainly clean!

I tried your link for the dining tables, and they are not working. Would you please share the sources? Have a terrific day!

  8. I like the idea of using Rub n' Buff (I've used it a lot on mine and items for clients), especially when viewing the other golds in the room in your pictures. You can try it in a spot and, if you don't like it, remove with some acetone. Beautiful chandy!!!
