2017 CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR PART 3: BREAKFAST NOOK, MASTER BEDROOM, KITCHEN, AND PATIO

I photographed the rest of my home last week (after finally putting on the last finishing touches!) and had planned to share the rest of my Christmas home tour with you before this point, but things like hosting parties, shopping, sneaking in some family time and other commitments took all of my time this past week... and I'm not complaining one bit!  However, sorry it's only a few days from Christmas and I'm just now completing my tour of our Breakfast Nook, Master Bedroom, Kitchen, and Patio.   If you missed them, you can catch Part 1 here and Part 2 here . This is somewhat of a monster post since it's everything that I haven't shown you yet, so I'll just let you scroll and enjoy the photos.  I'll provide some sources here and there, but if you have any questions that I haven't addressed please ask in the comments. ...

CHRISTMAS PHOTO BOOTH BACKDROP WITH PAPER PARTY FANS

CHRISTMAS PHOTO BOOTH BACKDROP WITH PAPER PARTY FANS

Over the weekend my family helped me put together some photo booth backdrops around our church for families to use this Christmas season.  For the past few years there have been several stations set up around the church for people to stop and take photos with friends and family, I think it's such a great idea!  I always like to share decor for church events with you here, too, because I know several readers like to adapt these ideas for their church.  However, most of them can also be adapted for party decor or even switched for different holidays or birthday parties if you work with the basic theme idea and just change the specifics or colors according to your occasion. ...

PRACTICAL STOCKING STUFFER IDEAS

December is quickly flying by, did you get a lot of shopping done this past weekend?  We made a pretty good dent in our lists but still need to finish up some odds and ends.  One thing that always takes a bit of extra effort is finishing up stocking stuffers.  We do stockings for everyone on both sides of our extended families, so it's always a challenge but ends up being fun seeing what things we can come up with.  I like to buy practical stocking stuffers, items that everyone needs day to day but aren't really fun to spend money on when you're buying them yourself.  And, a few of these suggestions are even better because they're practical AND cute! ...

2017 CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR PART 2: ENTRY AND DINING ROOM

Hello everyone, welcome to Part 2 of my Christmas home tour today!  I'm so happy to be sharing my Entry and Dining Room with you as a part of the Simply Christmas Home tour, hosted by the lovely Randi of Randi Garrett Design and Jennifer of Decor Gold Designs.   If you've found your way here via Life on Virginia Street, nice to meet you!  Sarah is such a sweet heart and I always enjoy her beautiful tours. I'm loving her pops of Emerald Green in today's tour, and every time I see her "O Holy Night" canvas I'm determined to find a spot to add one of my own! I've had so much fun injecting bursts of Christmas color into every nook and cranny... come on in and take a peek!  If you're new here today, my style is fairly traditional, but I love to use bold colors and mix and match patterns.  I have no idea what to label my "style," if I like something I add it in! I also enjoy keeping an eye out for second hand pieces that might work in my...

2017 CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR PART 1: PORCH AND LIVING ROOM

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!  I've been busy decking the halls and am so thrilled to share my Porch and Living Room for Part 1 of my Christmas Home Tour with you today. I want to start off by thanking Marty of A Stroll Thru Life for organizing this week's tour.  These tours are always a good opportunity to find new bloggers to follow and glean many new seasonal ideas.  For those of you visiting from  Life Love Larson , welcome!  I'm so glad you're here!  Andrea's classic, chic style is a joy to take in and I know you enjoyed her Christmas tour. If you're a new reader, let me take a moment to introduce myself. I'm a wife and mom of two teens- a boy and a girl- living in Edmond, Oklahoma (I'm a proud born and raised Okie!). My husband is a Southern Baptist Minister, and although I have a degree in Education and taught 3rd grade in the early years of our marriage, since having children I have stayed home to care for them. DIY FLOCKED CHRISTMAS TREE TUTORIAL

*A few great Cyber Monday deals are at the end of this post! A few posts back when I shared some gorgeous Christmas trees that were inspiring me this year, I noticed a theme.  Most of them were flocked!  I've never been a huge fan of flocked trees in the past, but this year I've been drawn to them and wanted to try one out.  I hated to spend money on a new tree since mine is only a few years old and still perfectly fine, so I decided to try flocking it myself.  I felt like I had nothing to lose!  I did look around a little online to get an idea of what this project might entail, and this tutorial was helpful.  I ended up doing mine just a bit differently so I thought I'd share my experience with you. ...

COLORFUL CHRISTMAS MANTEL WITH HOBBY LOBBY

COLORFUL CHRISTMAS MANTEL WITH HOBBY LOBBY

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Hobby Lobby. The opinions and text are all mine. I promise I'm not full out decorating for Christmas until after Thanksgiving is over, but today I'm so excited to share my colorful Christmas mantel with you. For this project, I was challenged to spend $100 at Hobby Lobby to style my mantel for Christmas. Let me tell you, especially during weeks where Christmas is 50% off, that goes a long way! Actually, a good portion of my holiday decorations are already from Hobby Lobby (I always add in a few new things each year), so I took this opportunity to add a few bigger pieces to my collection, knowing that I had plenty of smaller things to fill in with. Here are the results of my shopping trip- a huge 24x36 chalkboard art piece, vintage style and peppermint striped shatterproof ornaments, 2 artificial trees, 2 nutcrackers, and some gold metallic paper fans. ...

HOT PINK, ORANGE, BLUE AND WHITE THANKSGIVING TABLE 2017

Friday, November 17, 2017

HOT PINK, ORANGE, BLUE AND WHITE THANKSGIVING TABLE 2017

In keeping with my untraditional Fall color scheme this year, my Thanksgiving table followed suit!  I focused on hot pink, orange, blue and white and did some pattern mixing along the way.  If you read yesterday's post, I'm glad I put this table on hold for one more day because other than adding the glassware that I forgot, I made some other tweaks too and love it so much more now. *This post may contain affiliate links, read my full disclosure policy  here.   I found a new blue and white bowl at Homegoods last weekend, so I think that kicked off the entire plan.  A simple fruit centerpiece stays low and keeps from obstructing the view of friends across the table, and the ginger jars with Trader Joe's eucalyptus (thank you Amy!) can easily be moved aside if they are obtrusive during the meal.  We serve all of the meal buffet style in the kitchen, so there's no need to leave a lot of space on the table for food dishes.  I do usually add salt and pepper shak...

INSPIRING COLORFUL CHRISTMAS TREES

You guys, I'm losing it.  I set up our Thanksgiving Table yesterday, photographed it, and sat down to edit photos last night.  As I did I realized that I didn't even put glasses on the table and left off a few other little things I wanted to include! #fail  It felt like something was missing all along, but the glasses never dawned on me.  I almost went ahead and posted it anyway, but just couldn't do it!  So, I'm putting the finishing touches on it and will post tomorrow, and I'm bumping up the post I originally planned for tomorrow.  Everyone's looking at all of the One Room Challenge reveals today anyway, right?  ;) Many people are getting a jump on their Christmas decorations already, but even if you're a purist and wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate, we're only a week away!  I was happy with my tree last year, but there are a few tweaks I want to make this year.  I've been storing away ideas in my head and thought I'd share some tre...

FALL INTO THE HOLIDAYS- DIY DOLLAR STORE METAL CHALKBOARD WI-FI PASSWORD SIGN

Hi friends, welcome back to the third part of our Fall Into The Holidays series!  With the encouragement of our organizer Lisa from  Shine Your Light , each week we're sharing simple ideas to get 4 rooms in your home holiday ready now, before the hustle and bustle of the season sets in.  We've already shared projects to get our kitchens and bedrooms in shape for the holiday season, and today we're working on ways to get our Living Rooms ready for holiday guests. Inevitably, when people visit your home this holiday season, at some point they will pull out their phone or other electronic device and need access to your wi-fi.  There's always a good funny video to share with the family, right?  ;)  I thought it would be nice for the wi-fi password to be easily accessible to guests, so I created a simple chalkboard sign to display that information.  This great vintage-looking silver metal tray came from Dollar Tree of all places, so it cost next to nothing to make this ...

TIPS FOR VIEWING INSTAGRAM STORIES (AND A WINTER GARDENING IDEA)

I recently had lunch with some friends and at some point the conversation turned towards Instagram.  As we talked about Instagram stories, it became evident that they weren't aware of a few tricks I knew to make viewing stories a bit easier and more enjoyable.  I thought for sure everyone knew these things, but since my smart friends didn't, I thought others might enjoy these tips too.  I shared them on my Instagram stories a while back, but those expire so quickly I decided to share them here for everyone who might not have caught that round of stories. (Before I continue, did you notice things look a little different around here???  I'm so excited to have a new blog design, and if you missed it I posted all about the new features and how to navigate things last week in this post.  Take a look if you missed it!) TIME FOR A NEW BLOG DESIGN, TAKE A LOOK AROUND!

About 2 months ago I marked 6 years of blogging,  and a new look for the blog has been long overdue around here!  I've been so excited about this new blog design and couldn't wait to get it up and running to share with you.  I wanted a cleaner look with more features to make things easier to navigate, as well as past projects easier to find. Do you like the new header?  I made it myself and am pretty proud if I do say so!  I scanned a piece of gingham scrapbook paper and my favorite Kate Spade table runner into the computer and used the images for the design. FEATURES I wanted to point out a few features of the new design that will make your experience here better.  First off, there's a new menu bar across the top, and it stays in place as you scroll down the page so it's always easy to access.   ...

FALL INTO THE HOLIDAYS- KITCHEN PANTRY ORGANIZATION AND UPDATE

For the next month, I'm so excited to be joining some of my blogger friends as we prepare for the holidays (Thanksgiving is already less than a month away)!  The craze and busy-ness of the season can quickly turn stressful, so we thought we'd try to curb some of the crazy and try to get some things knocked off of our prep to-do lists early.  Each week we'll focus on a different room of the house, and pick one small project (ideally fairly quick and easy), to tackle in order to be more prepared as the holidays roll around.  Many thanks to our smart friend Lisa from Shine Your Light for coming up with this idea and issuing the challenge to get our homes in order!  This week we're focusing on the Kitchen...probably the most important room for holiday prep!  I decided to overhaul my pantry- cleaning it out, taking stock of what I have, getting it organized, and sprucing it up a bit. ...

OKC DESIGNER SHOWHOUSE TOUR- PART 2

Well, you all sure had some strong opinions about Part 1 of the Designer Showhouse Tour that I shared last week.  And, for the most part I agreed with you.  I debated whether to even show you the rest of the house.  However, even though it's not an over the top fabulous show house and some of the design is pretty out there, I think there are still ideas to be gleaned and lessons to be learned.  I think Audrey's comment from Part 1 of the tour sums up my intent best: "As a whole I join the consensus, but I'm always distilling the parts so I can integrate them into my own spaces. There were pieces like the monopoly game that my engineer/builder son will HAVE to make! I loved the possibilities of the black and white study! Many light fixtures were to die for!" So, here's (most of-I still edited out some of it) the rest of the house! This upstairs office was one of my favorite spaces, the graphic wallpaper and velvet chairs were the highlights for me. ...

OKC DESIGNER SHOWHOUSE TOUR- PART 1

A few weeks ago a friend and I toured a Designer Showhouse that was open here in Oklahoma City.  I took plenty of photos and thought you might like to see the tour as well.  I believe that designers from a variety of local decor stores were responsible for decorating each room, and to my understanding this was a pre-existing home that was used for the Showhouse while on the market.  The design throughout the home varies greatly, some things I really liked and some things I did not.  To each his own, right?  I'll show you at least a look from each room, and highlight some of the things I thought were good ideas and things that inspired me for future projects.   There were so many rooms that I'll share a portion of the house today and will do a second post with the rest of the home at a later time. The covered porch was all decked out, that tassel garland caught our eye and we want to make one of our own! Also, how about that rug...look familiar?    ;) ...

IKEA FAVORITES {2}

Early last year I shared some Ikea Favorites with you, and after realizing that there were so many things that I didn't include on that list I thought it was time for another round! Some of these are things that I consider to be Ikea "staples"... what I purchase time and time again, what I'm glad I purchased, and things that I use in my home.  If you don't get to Ikea often, the store can be VERY overwhelming, and it's easy to end up wandering around aimlessly caught up in a sea of choices in each department.  So, I'm highlighting some things to keep an eye out for when you go. The in-store photos are phone pics and the lighting is bad, but they should give you an idea of what things look like on the shelf.   I did try to include the label in the photo so you could see the price, too. ...
