HOW TO VISUALLY LIGHTEN UP DARK LEATHER FURNITURE

At this time of year when we're all craving a fresh, clean look, I thought I'd share a few tips and tricks for how to visually lighten up dark furniture.  For durability and ease of care, you really can't beat leather furniture.  No wonder it's such a popular choice!

However, if you've ever owned a piece of dark brown furniture like I do, at times they can seem to demand all of the attention in the room.  If you're ready to freshen up the look and feel of your dark furniture, try one of these tricks:

Simply covering up a portion of the leather lightens it up, adds interest, and distracts the eye from the darker color.

Light colored pillows, the more the better, become the star of the show with the dark leather playing the supporting role.  A patterned pillow helps attract the eye even more.

Even with dark furniture, using lighter colors on the walls, rug, other furniture and/or drapery can produce a light, soothing visual effect.

One last idea to lighten up dark furniture... have the cushion reupholstered- although a light cushion might defeat your whole purpose of stain-resistant leather!  Still, it's a thought. :)

  5. Where did you purchase your leather chairs? I'm looking for comforterable leather recliners without the overstuffed puffy look. I want a tailored look like yours. Thanks!

    1. Hi there! I purchased them at a local furniture store years ago that is no longer in business. However, I located them online and added in the link underneath the photo in the post above. We've been really happy with the quality, style, and comfort.
