DIY SUMMER SCHOOL {THRIFTED} JEWELRY EMBELLISHED VASE

Session 2 of DIY Summer School is happening today!  My friend Beth of designPost Interiors put together this fun series, and we really want you all to join in and participate with us.

Today, we're featuring our thrifted makeovers.  After searching through a few stores, nothing was really catching my eye.  But then, I came across this vase and really liked the lines of it.

With this piece in mind as inspiration, I knew it could have a little more personality with some bling added.

After giving the vase a fresh coat a spray paint (this one is my favorite for a glossy finish), I had a blank canvas to work with.

So, I raided my jewelry stash and pulled out a statement piece that I don't wear anymore (bubble necklace, anyone?).   It was easy enough to use some pliers to pry apart the links that connected the pieces.  And, despite the glue pictured, I ended up just hot gluing them on.  It was much faster and held securely.  I decided that it needed a bit more than just the pink, so I pulled out another necklace that I don't wear much and added some pieces from it, too.

To finish it off, I really liked the stripe detail on the original finish, so I added those back on with my favorite Martha Stewart liquid gilding paint

So with a few dollars for the vase, unused jewelry, and about 15 minutes, I have a whole new sassy piece!

Perfect for some of the flowers my husband surprised me with a few days ago (today's our 21st Anniversary!).

Thrifted makeovers are probably one of my most favorite things to do!  Here's a few of my other top thrifty makeovers:

  12. I'm in love with that painting behind the vase! Is it also one of your DIY's? I have searched the blog but can't find anything about it. I have to try to copy it! Unless you bought it somewhere, please do tell!
