WORKING ON LOTS OF LITTLE THINGS AND ONE BIG THING

This time of year is always crazy around here.  We have so much going on and it seems like a race to the finish line until school is out.  I've been working really hard this week to finish some things I've started before moving on to other projects.  Believe it or not that's hard for me to do.  I usually have 15 things going at once.  Not really, but close.

So, today I thought I'd give you a few glimpses of what's kept me busy this week.

I always struggle with what to keep on the kitchen table.  I'm not to the point when I want it bare, but whatever's there gets moved 10 times a day.  I'm thinking simple is better.   And, I'm loving the hot pink and orange color combination!

I'm really wishing that I wouldn't have painted that brass tray when I got it a few years ago.  Emily Henderson sold one just like it for big bucks in her One King's Lane sale.  My dad said a mild paint stripper should work well as long as I don't scrub it with anything abrasive.  I'll probably try it.

I've already grown tired of a few of the pink accents I added in the living room a little while back.  So, the floor lamp in the corner got a fresh coat...

I'm loving the striped candle covers every time they catch my eye.

And I replaced the pink zebra pillows on the sofa with one of the new fabrics from the HGTV line at JoAnn's.  Have you seen them?  Pretty good!

I'm glad I can sew or I would be up a creek (things get changed a lot around here!).

I spied this yesterday and it made me happy-

I'm not doing much to take care of my little fiddle leaf fig, but this is the 5th or 6th new leaf since I got him in January.  I guess something is working right!

He's happy in the corner of my dining room.  I really wish I would have bought another one for the other side of the china cabinet.  I like symmetry, you know.

Speaking of plants, I picked this little guy up for $2 off of the clearance rack at Lowe's yesterday.  He needs a new pot but I think these little plants are fantastic and so fun.  I've had a similar one for several months and they seem to be a hardy tropical.  That tray needs some serious styling also.

Last weekend we got a really bad hailstorm.  Remember my freshly painted urns on the front porch?

Well, they don't look so good anymore.  Totally chipped up and I can't believe a piece of hail went right through one of them!  Our neighborhood was hit hard, almost everyone needs a new roof-including us.  After we just got a new roof in October due to hail damage last year.  Yeah, it's fun to live in Oklahoma in the Spring.  It's been crazier than normal...we're breaking record lows left and right and yesterday there was snow in parts of the state.  On May 2.  Nuts.  My procrastination for not planting flowers yet has paid off-the hail or late freezes would have destroyed them.

I'm STILL working in Caleb's room.  It's been a slow process of just working on a little at a time, but next week I have a finished project to show you.  In the mean time, I switched up the fabric on his giant initials.

I never really gave you a report after our trip to Ikea during Spring Break, but they were out of the black and white pillows I really wanted.  A few weeks later my sister went to Dallas for a concert and made a detour to Ikea, and they had a bunch!  She picked up two for me and I LOVE THEM!  I'm actually surprised at what a nice, thick cover they are and how well they're made.

This is on the stump table beside the chair-

It's still one of my favorite issues ever.  I adore that living room.  And the whole house.

So, it's been busy around here!  But, the biggest thing going on today is that this girl has a birthday tomorrow, so we're preparing to party tonight!

I've got some fun things to show you next week from the party.

Whew!  That post ended up way longer than I planned.  I hope everyone has a great weekend!  Has the weather where you are been as crazy as ours?

  3. I love these types of posts...glad I am not the only one who has a bazillion things going on. I just discovered a new leaf on our fiddle leaf - the first one in almost a year. Maybe it's a spring thing? Have a fun birthday party weekend!

  4. Hi there! Everything looks wonderful. Like everyone else, I love your use of color...it's fresh and fun. The plants are nice too. I've added some plants to our house this year. The cat had to chew on them for a day or two then she was over it.

Just thinking about that hail reminds me of too many of those storms. Nobody outside of the Oklahoma City area would ever have a clue how extreme the weather is there. I was afraid I'd miss the cold here..I don't.Did I tell you Rick Mitchell is on the Dallas news now? Makes me feel at home. :)

  5. I've been checking in to see the expedit in your son's room. I'm thinking of adding some of the double row ones to my boys closet and wondered if it is solid wood and if you know how much drawer space the inserts provide? Can't wait to see the final result!

#2, happy happy birthday to your little girl. She is such a beauty!
#3, it makes me happy that you, Pam and I (and about a million other people) have the same Ikea pillow. We're all in the Lappljung Ruta club together :)

  10. Lots of fun going on there, except for the weather. :/ So sorry about the roof and the wonderful pots you just updated. Crazy stuff around here too, however, no hail...yet.

LOVE that green fabric and the IKEA black & white too! The lamp looks great with the green and of course, I think the stripes are perfect. The blue fabric in Caleb's room looks bright and spring like.

Your daughter is beautiful! Happy Birthday to her and hope you have fun celebrating her special day.

I don't have a lot of projects going on...predominantly I'm sorting, donating and clearing out. I guess this is a perfect time to move as I feel like "out with the old, in with the new". :)

  11. That lamp is totally awesome! LOVE! And I'm so sorry about the hail - what a bummer. My sister lives in Kansas and they had snow yesterday too. Not my idea of spring!

  12. Love the subtle changes you've made! I'm also loving the new HGTV products that have come out. I'm carrying their recent lighting in my store and they are very reasonably priced and very stylish. Hope the party goes well, looking forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve. http://shop.decrenew.com/s?f=hgtv

  13. Love all your fresh changes! I'm no whiz at sewing, but always so thankful for being able to whip up a pillow quickly too! Can't wait to see Caleb's room, looks like you have bright new diys. Happy, happy day to your cutie!

  14. Spotted your cute new addition...the Bonsai Ponytail Palm... Keep it in a little pot like that and it will stay small. (Otherwise it will grow into a 15 foot tropical tree!!!) Mine is now well over 35 years old. I bought it when I was just a teenager and it's still going strong.
